You learn skills, build a work history, and move up. I can’t afford a two-bedroom apartment in my area and I make much more than minimum wage.

  5. Even with Chicago’s notoriously strict gun laws.  Doesn’t seem like those laws are protecting many people after all.

  6. I love Neil deGrasse Tyson, but I have no use for scientists who think that nothing they currently believe could ever be altered or dismissed altogether.  I don’t like his statement here.

  7. Oh please. Taxes are not *your* money. If people could give up the idea that it’s THEIR money being pried out of their hands, rather than just another bill, there’d be a lot less whining. You want lights, you pay the electric company. You want a place to live, you pay the bank or landlord. You want food, you pay the grocery store. You want to live in a civilized society, you pay taxes. Get. Over. It.

And if the electric company jacks up your bill and have nothing to show for it, you have something to say about it.  If they decide to bill you for your neighbor’s electricity usage, you’re probably going to have a problem with that.

Just a head’s up to anyone who hasn’t heard, but a law was recently passed in California to allow transgender residents to receive free surgeries related to transitioning to uninsured transgender residents. Of course the actual program probably won’t be in the works until the end of next year, but it is something to look forward to!

I love that term, “free surgeries”.  Makes it sound like surgeons are lining up to provide their services out of the kindness of their hearts instead of taxpayers paying for these surgeries.
